New Database: Investor-State Law Guide

The Investor-State Law Guide (ISLG) allows you to conduct research into investment treaty law with “pinpoint accuracy”. Researchers will find it a valuable resource for locating treaties, rules, and cases related to investment treaty law. The UNC Law Library has recently acquired access for UNC Law faculty and students.

The ISLG document collection contains arbitration rules, international treaties & rules, bilateral investment treaties, investment treaty jurisprudence, free trade agreements, NAFTA, and NAFTA jurisprudence. Not only does ISLG contain this large collection of documents, it also has many valuable search options for navigating the database and especially for identifying relevant documents on an issue of law.

ISLG has five main research tools: Subject Navigator, Article Citator, Jurisprudence Citator, Terms & Phrases, and Full Text Search. This combination of tools allows the user to conduct detailed research into a particular issue, instrument, or decision.

• Subject Navigator: This directory of investment treaty arbitral law subjects allows you to dig deep into issues and sub-issues before ultimately locating relevant cases that discuss the selected issue.
• Article Citator: After selecting a particular instrument, the article citator identifies where specific provisions of the instrument have been cited by tribunals.
• Jurisprudence Citator: When looking at a decision in the database, this citator allows you to view cases where tribunals subsequently refer to the decision generally or where tribunals cite to specific parts of the decision.
