The Law Library provides special services for Research Assistants, including training, research consultations, and Interlibrary Loan services.
Training for New Research Assistants
All new summer Research Assistants must complete a MANDATORY session of RA training that covers library basics (ILL services, Lexis/Westlaw/Bloomberg access, etc.) and useful legal resources (HeinOnline, ProQuest Congressional, and interdisciplinary materials). The training also provides advice on communicating with faculty and producing work product for research projects.
If you have any questions about RA training or other services, please contact Reference Librarian Kerri-Ann Rowe at kyrowe@unc.edu or 919-962-6202.
Research Consultations
Research Assistants who start during the Fall or Spring semesters can contact the library for a one-on-one training session. All Research Assistants are encouraged to schedule a research consultation to discuss strategy for specific research projects as assigned by the faculty.
In order to request a research appointment, please complete this appointment request form.
Interlibrary Loan Services
UNC law students are welcome to check out books from the Law Library’s general collection for a 90-day period. Students can browse the open stacks and are encouraged to ask for help finding materials at the Circulation Desk or the Reference Desk. Students can also refer to Research Guides to help with locating relevant library materials.
Research Assistants can request materials available from campus libraries. To request materials from other libraries, the Law Library provides an Interlibrary Loan service.
If a Research Assistant would like to request material to be given to a faculty member, the faculty member can directly make the request from the Law Library using the blue Request button in the catalog or through FIND Services.
