Three Laura N. Gasaway Graduate Assistants Join the Law Library

The Kathrine R. Everett Law Library would like to welcome three new Laura N. Gasaway Graduate Assistants! Sara Farnsworth, Jasmine Plott, and Emily Roscoe have recently begun their graduate assistantships and will be experiencing many different aspects of law librarianship throughout the next year.

Sara Farnsworth

Sara Farnsworth began working in libraries as an undergraduate at the University of Southern Mississippi before moving to North Carolina, working in the library software field for several years, and earning her MLS from North Carolina Central University. Currently a third-year law student at UNC, she will be balancing her role in the library with her work as Online Content Editor for the North Carolina Law Review and as an Honors Writing Scholar assisting with Carolina Law’s Research, Reasoning, Writing, and Advocacy course for first-year law students. She also intends to keep up her skills as a Certified Beer Judge by judging occasional brewing competitions across North Carolina.

Jasmine Plott

Jasmine Plott, of Concord, North Carolina, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her undergraduate studies and began the dual degree program (JD/MSLS) at UNC in 2015.  During her time as a dual degree student, Jasmine has served as a Carolina Academic Library Associate for Walter R. Davis Library and interned with the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office.  Currently serving on the Pro Bono Board at UNC Law and as a member of the Holderness Moot Court Negotiations Team, she is looking forward to pursuing a career in public interest law upon graduation this Spring.  When she’s not doing law or library related activities, Jasmine enjoys reading true crime novels, kickboxing, and spending time with her dog Hamlet.

Emily Roscoe

Emily Roscoe earned a JD from UNC School of Law, an MSLS from the UNC School of Information and Library Science (SILS), and an MPA from the UNC School of Government. She is currently a PhD Candidate at SILS, specializing in public records law and management and the legal liability risks for collecting institutions. She has worked at the Kathrine R. Everett Law Library in various positions since 2011 and is thrilled to be back as a graduate assistant. She enjoys teaching undergraduates and public officials at UNC and hopes to continue in this capacity after she finishes her doctoral work.

About the Graduate Assistantship

The Laura N. Gasaway Graduate Assistantship at the Kathrine R. Everett Law Library provides a pathway to law librarianship. The holder of the assistantship is able to put theory into practice and explore different aspects of law librarianship such as helping library users who ask questions at the Reference Desk, developing guides to research on a topic, preparing to teach legal research, managing print and digital materials for the collection, and working with information technology resources. About Laura N. Gasaway

The graduate assistantship was created by, and is named in honor of, Lolly Gasaway, who served as the director of the Kathrine R. Everett Law Library and Professor of Law from 1985 to 2006. From 2006 to 2010, Professor Gasaway served the law school as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and she became the Paul B. Eaton Distinguished Professor of Law Emerita in 2013.
