Welcome (Back) to the Kathrine R. Everett Law Library!

September 2, 2021

The fall semester is underway, and the library has plenty of available resources to help you hit the ground running whether you are a first-year or returning student.

  1. Not sure how to access your legal databases? Our Legal Databases page provides hyperlinks and access instructions for all of the library databases.
  2. Need a quiet place to study? The library has you covered. Grab a seat in any of our quiet areas on the first and second floors or reserve a study room in the law school.
  3. Have a remote class and not sure where you can take it onsite? We have seating available on third floor of the library (the third-floor study carrels, study cubicles, and table seats). Seating is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Wear a headset or earbuds with the volume at a reasonable level that does not disturb other library users. Keep in mind that if multiple students are attending remote classes, there may be a significant level of noise.
  4. Looking for a good study aid? We have plenty of those! Review our Digital Study Aids by Topic Research Guide to browse digital study aids available to you organized by topic.
  5. Tackling a new area of law and need a little research help? We have research guides on a variety of topics, from civil procedure to torts. Use them to get started on a new topic or to find resources you didn’t even know existed.
  6. IT Question? That’s not us, but the IT folks are here in the library on the third floor. Also, feel free to take a look at their quick guide to common Law IT questions.

Here are a few additional tips for making the best use of the library:

  • The designated Third Floor seating is the only place where students should be taking remote classes in the Law Library. Students are not permitted to schedule and hold meetings in the Law Library. This includes meetings held via Zoom or other virtual meeting software.
  • You must wear a face mask at all times while in the library. There are also hand sanitizer stations throughout the library for your use.
  • Please eat snacks and meals outdoors or in designated dining facilities where you may remove your mask. Beverages are permitted. Please remove your mask only briefly to take a sip.
  • We’re here to help! If you have questions, please contact the Reference Desk in-person, by email at lawref@unc.edu, by phone at 919-962-1194, or by chat at https://library.law.unc.edu (Click “Questions”) – Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
