Digital Access to News & Observer Newspapers through NewsBank

June 27, 2018

The University Libraries subscription to NewsBank now includes full digitization of three North Carolina newspapers:

Each of these digital archives includes full content of the paper versions going back to 1879 for Raleigh, 1892 for Charlotte, and 1909 for Greensboro.  In addition, you will be able to access the daily edition of the current paper one day following publication.  This is great for historical research, cite checking, or just personal reading to keep up with current events.

The Raleigh News & Observer includes digitized images of the paper from 1879-1991 and 2018-current.  Text is available from 1991-current.  Text for the News & Observer Blogs is available from 2008-current and the Web Edition Articles from 2005-current.

For the Charlotte Observer, digitized images of the paper are available from 1892-1985, with text available from 1985-current.  For the Greensboro News & Record, the digitized images are available from 1906 – 1989, and the text is available from 1990-current.

You can run keyword searches (basic or advanced), browse issues by date, filter by source type, save searches, and even set up alerts.  These databases are accessible through the library’s e-research by discipline page, under News.
