New Digital Collection: Judge James Dickson Phillips, Jr.

The Kathrine R. Everett Law Library is proud to announce a new digital collection on the life and work of Judge James Dickson Phillips, Jr.

Judge Phillips passed away on August 27, 2017 at age 95. During his lifetime, was a member of the UNC Law Class of 1948, served as dean of the law school from 1964-1974, and in 1978, began his term on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

The digital collection is divided into four broad categories that are representative of Judge Phillips’s career, covering his early life and military service, his time as professor and dean of the law school, his engagement with scholarship and public service, and his work on the federal appellate bench. This special collection contains unique digital resources such as photographs, articles, speeches, and judicial opinions. It serves as a good starting point for research not only on Judge Phillips, but on the areas of life and the law touched by his work.
