New Bloomberg Law Feature: Smart Code
January 17, 2017
Bloomberg Law has introduced a new feature to make legal research more integrated and comprehensive! The legal database platform has developed Smart Code.
The Smart Code tab is located along the top of the page of the statute and allows you to quickly view opinions discussing the provision that you are researching, if opinions are available.
Smart Code Features
Smart Code improves on annotated Code by using machine learning to identify sections of citing court opinions, or extracts, that make reference to a particular code, rule or regulation and then ranks each extract’s discussion of the code on a sliding scale from weak to strong.
Users can now pull up a statute or regulation and quickly view extracts of court opinions discussing the provision they are researching. The feature allows users to filter the relevant extracts by Keyword, Date, Court, Jurisdiction or Legal Topic to easily identify the most useful results.
Smart Code Availability
Smart Code is currently available for:
- United States Code
- Code of Federal Regulations
- Federal Rules of Evidence
- Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure
- Federal Rules of Civil Procedure
- Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure
- All states and the District of Columbia
