New Features and Content on Govinfo

August 26, 2016

Govinfo.gov is the GPO’s new site that is currently in beta. The site launched in February 2016. In July, some new features and additional content were added. In their July 2016 Release Notes, Govinfo highlights these new features. Users can browse the collection by Government Author. The authors are separated into the Legislative Branch, Executive Branch, and Judicial Branch. You can search for documents that the Architect of the Capitol has authored, or perhaps you are interested in the Library of Congress. Additionally, bills and public laws are now linked to related documents such as Congressional Reports.

With regard to new content, the U.S. Court Opinions Collection now has over 1.5 million opinions. The collection includes cases from the U.S. Courts of Appeals, the U.S. District Courts, the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts, and the U.S. Court of International Trade.

Also, the GPO notes that they will be working on a number of updates and new features. One feature that I am excited about is that they will be adding the initial functionality for alerts and notifications! The GPO is asking users for feedback. Users can submit comments to help improve some of the new features. For additional information regarding the newest features and content, visit Govinfo.gov.
