Circulating materials may be checked out according to the following schedule:

  • Books from the general collection: 30 days
  • Reserve materials and Law Study Aids: 4 hours for books, 3 days for audio CDs
  • Bound volumes of journals: 1 day (for UNC Law students only)
  • DVDs: 3 days

In general, primary legal materials such as court reports and statutes do not circulate, while secondary sources such as legal commentaries do. The circulation status of specific titles is indicated in the library catalog.

Non-affiliated borrowers may not check out reserve materials, study aids, CDs or DVDs, but are welcomed to use these resources in the Law Library.

UNC faculty, students, and staff receive overdue, recall, pickup, fine, and lost item notices by email. Other patrons receive these notices via email, unless postal mail notices are requested. Courtesy reminder notices, sent three days before items are due, are available only via email.
