The staff at the Reference Desk help users engaged in legal research to locate materials, use legal resources effectively, and answer questions about the collection. The staff does not provide substantive advice on legal problems, nor can they interpret legal materials. Reference assistance to persons outside the academic community is provided to the extent possible, but first priority necessarily goes to UNC law students and faculty.
When classes are in session reference assistance is generally available weekdays from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. During the month of September, the desk is staffed until 6:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday. During Fall and Spring semesters on Sundays, the desk is staffed from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Hours change during intersessions and holidays; changes are posted on the Hours page and at the desk, or you may call the Reference Desk at 919-962-1194.
Westlaw, Lexis and Bloomberg access generally is available only to the law school community (students, faculty and staff). However, the library does make available two Westlaw Next terminals for alumni, members of the bar, and members of the public to engage in Westlaw Next research regarding North Carolina and federal legal issues. Use of these terminals must be in person in the library.
