The law library provides scanning and photocopy resources to facilitate research, teaching, and student learning, within the guidelines and policies of the university (UNC) and copyright law. Under UNC policy (

Users may not engage in the unauthorized copying, distributing, altering or translating of copyrighted materials, software, music or other media without the express permission of the copyright holder or as otherwise allowed by law.


Scanning is free of charge. There are 2 scanners on the entry level (4th floor) of the library, near the public computer kiosks. One takes pictures from overhead, the other from a flat bed or paper-feeder. Patrons can:

  • Email the scanned document to themselves or others
  • Insert a USB device to download a scanned document


Photocopiers provided by Carolina Copy are located in the middle of the library's 4th floor, behind the wall near the state materials.

  • The photocopiers in the Law Library accept UNC OneCards, University Guest Cards, Departmental Cards, and cash.
  • The cost for copying is $0.14 per page with a UNC OneCard, Guest Card or Departmental Card, and $0.25 per page with coins.
  • Neither the Law student nor the CCI $40 allotments may be used on photocopiers.
  • Money added to a OneCard at any Tar Heel Teller or through the OneCard Office may be used on the photocopiers.
  • Patrons may purchase Law Library Guest Cards at the Circulation Desk. Cards may be used for printing or copying and are available in the following denominations:
    • $3.00 (14 copies or 20 prints)
    • $5.00 (28 copies or 40 prints)
    • $10.00 (64 copies or 90 prints)
    NOTE: Law Library Guest Cards have a fixed value and additional funds cannot be added.
  • Patrons may purchase University Guest Cards (for copying & printing) and add value to those cards or to a OneCard using TarHeel Teller machines. Machines are located at Davis Library, the Undergraduate Library, the Health Sciences Library, and several other campus locations. There is no Tar Heel Teller in the law school or law library.
  • Please report equipment malfunctions and other problems with the photocopiers to Carolina Copy, the supplier and operator, at or notify the Circulation Desk.
